Change of plans

Our destination changed at the last minute today, and we went to Chimaltenango, which was about a half hour drive (instead of two hours). We saw about double the number of patients today (400+) in what seemed about half the space.

I want to write a little about the process we use to move patients through the clinic. First they check in (first photo), where we get their name and age, and they get a form with a number that they bring to the triage, which is the next step in the process. A student will call them forward and get their vital stats and do a general health screening (second photo). The student will determine if they need any tests or need to see a specialist, such as OB/GYN, vision, OMT (third photo), or pediatrics). Finally, almost all patients end at the pharmacy, where medications to treat their conditions are dispensed. I'll write more about that step in another post.
